A Racine, Wis., manufacturing company is busy filling orders for cites across America seeking to brighten their communities with energy efficient led lighting.

A division company of Ruud Lighting, Inc., BetaLED is seeing a sizable boost in their business as cities tap into existing Recovery Act funds to purchase light emitting diode (LED) fixtures & bulbs for its roadways, parking lots, and complexes. Thousands of lights in cities across America, such as San Jose, Ca., Scottsdale, Ariz., and Anchorage, Alaska, have already been replaced with BetaLED lighting products.

“It’s a win for everyone: the environment, the cities, buildings, for us,” said Gianna O’Keefe, marketing manager for Ruud Lighting. Given the current tax incentives to obtain efficient lighting, there couldn't be a better time to upgrade to solid-state lighting.

The cities’ decision to switch to LED lighting isn’t surprising to Alan Ruud, CEO and chairman of the company. They emit more light, have a longer life than incandescent & high-pressure sodium lights, and provide a 50 to 70 percent in energy savings, he says.

“I don’t see why anyone would care to use anything but LED,” Alan says. “They out perform current bulbs and only use half the energy.”

BetaLED has been supplying clean energy-efficient lighting to clients around the globe since 2001. BetaLED entered the industry when LEDs were capable of just 8 lumens per watt (LPW). That number jumped up to 40 LPW in 2006. Today, BetaLED has products that have luminous efficacy of 100+ LPW.
